By now you should be fairly familiar with what pipe looks like, but let’s just take a closer look.

The first thing to remember is nominal pipe size is determined by the inside diameter.

The threads should have a slight taper to them. This is sometimes very slight on the smaller parts.

Also the treads have a unique pitch to them. (See section labeled Pipe)
Sometimes brass fittings can be “Red Brass” and looks just like the image directly to the left. These parts are not under the brass Prefix but are classified as Pipe
