Hazard Communication

This program has been prepared to comply with the requirements of the Federal OSHA standards and to insure that information necessary for the safe use, handling and storage of hazardous chemicals is provided for and made available to employees.

This program includes guidelines on identification of chemical hazards and the preparations and proper use of container labels, place cards and other types of warning devices.

CHEMICAL INVENTORY

1.   J & E Supply & Fastener Co. maintains an inventory of all known chemicals in use on the work site.  A chemical inventory list is available from Scott Malloy.

2.  Hazardous chemicals brought onto the work site by outside contractors will be included on the hazardous chemicals inventory list.

CONTAINER LABELING

1.   All chemicals on site will be stored in their original or approved containers with a proper label attached, except small quantities intended for immediate use.  Any container not labeled should be given to Scott Malloy for labeling or proper disposal.

2.  Workers may dispense chemicals from original containers only in small quantities intended for immediate use.  Any chemicals left after work is completed must be returned in the original container to Scott Malloy for proper handling.

3.  No unmarked containers of any size are to be left in the work area unattended.

4.  J & E Supply & Fastener Co. will rely on manufacturer applied labels whenever possible, and will ensure that the labels are maintained.  Containers that are not labeled or which the manufacturer’s label has been removed, will be relabeled.

5.  Scott Malloy will ensure that each container is labeled with the identity of the hazardous chemical contained and any appropriate hazard warnings.

MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS)

1.  Employees working with hazardous chemicals may request a copy of the material safety data sheet (MSDS).  Requests for MDSD’s should be made to Scott Malloy – he maintains the copies for the required MSDS’s for each hazardous chemical in the workplace.  These are readily accessible during the work shift to the employees when they are in their work area.

2.  A master set of Material Safety Data Sheets is kept in the Warehouse Manager’s office area, Safety Data Sheets for Shop use products are also kept in the Shop Office.  In addition, the appropriate MSDS’s are located in the work areas.  The individual responsible for maintaining set of MSDS’s is Scott Malloy.
