Prefix Codes
The prefix code is portion of a part number that identifies the basics of the fastener design. For example:
0HC0250C01500Z5
The “HC” lets us know that this is a Hex Cap Screw.
1TS0014A01500HWSLZ
The “TS” lets us know that this is a Tapping Screw.
The following is a list of some of the most common Prefix Codes.

In some part numbers the Prefix Code denotes the vendor or common brand name. In this example we have taken the Vendor name, abbreviated it and utilized their part number.

The “MHT” lets us know we are talking about Martin Hand Tools.
In this example we have taken a common brand name and abbreviated it as the Prefix Code.
ELC20020
The “ELC” lets us know we are talking about a Electrical part.
