Personnel Policies

            These Policies were written to increase understanding and help insure uniformity and consistency throughout our organization.  The policies listed cover most situations, however they are not intended as a complete listing.  In all cases J & E Supply & Fastener management reserves the right to exercise sound judgment in determining compliance.  These policies are subject to modification and further development.

 

 General Rules of Conduct

Be On Time:   Employees are expected to be at their designated work stations, ready for work, at the scheduled starting time.

Hours of Operation:  Monday thru Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

                                                       Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Saturdays: Order fillers, counter sales and inside sales will be required to work as schedule on Saturdays as volume demands.  See your supervisor about scheduling.

Our Policy: Our primary responsibility is to serve our customers.  We may be asked to start a little early or stay a little late to take care of a customer.  We should do this with a kind and helpful attitude.  Our customer is the boss who pays us for the value we create for them.

 Housekeeping: You are expected to keep your individual workstations clean and neat.  Do not permit your workstation to become cluttered with debris, paperwork, rags, etc.

Absence:  Employees who are unable to report to work due to illness or other justifiable cause, must report their absence to their immediate supervisor within 30 minutes after the start of their shift.  Three or more days of absences due to illness will require a doctors release.

 Tardiness: You are expected to be at your work station on time.  Tardiness affects your co-workers as well as other departments.  Excessive tardiness can lead to disciplinary action.

 Illness: A doctors statement must be provided to your supervisor to receive an excused absence.  All other absences will be considered unexcused unless you get prior approval from your supervisor.

 Breaks: Employees may take a 15 minute break each four hours worked.  Employees are required to clock in and out for breaks.  Breaks must be taken in assigned break areas.  Employees cannot leave the premises during breaks, other than trips to the Superette for a snack.  Morning breaks must be taken between 9:30 and 10:30; afternoon breaks between 3:00 and 4:00.  Breaks must be taken per schedule.

Lunch: Employees are allowed one hour for lunch.  Employees must clock in and out on time cards, and may leave the premises for lunch.  Employee’s supervisor will schedule lunch breaks.

Leaving the Premises:  Leaving the premises during your shift is not allowed unless it is at your scheduled lunch period.  Walking across the street to the Superette for a sandwich or snack will be allowed if:   

♦   It is your scheduled break  

♦   You clock out before leaving  

♦   You inform your supervisor prior to leaving  

♦   You do not exceed your 15 minute break time  

♦   You walk, not drive to the Superette

 Trips to Your Vehicle: Going to your vehicle (or someone else’s) is not allowed unless it is on your break and you have permission from your supervisor.

 Safety: The management of J & E Supply & Fastener Co., Inc. holds the safety and health of its employees as matter of high priority in its daily operations.  All unsafe activities and conditions are to be reported immediately to your supervisor.

 Accidents: All accidents or injuries must be reported to your supervisor immediately.  Accident reports must be filled out by the employee and witness (if there is one) then given to your supervisor. All accident reports are to be forwarded to the Safety Director.

 Smoking: No Smoking In The Warehouse!  Smoking will be allowed in the Smoking Area on Breaks and Lunches only.  The Smoking Area is located outside, near the door in the A325 area.

 Smokeless / Chewing Tobacco: Absolutely no spitting in trash cans, on the floors, in sinks, etc!  A covered container must be used and appropriately identified so that it Will Not be mistaken for anything other than a “Spit Cup”.  These products ARE NOT to be used while working directly with the customer.

 Personal Calls: All personal phone calls are to be made on breaks or lunches.    These calls are not to exceed 5 minutes in length. Messages will be taken for any personal inbound calls. No personal outbound long-distance calls without supervisor approval.

Dress Code: Proper work attire is to be worn at all times.  Proper dress is determined by the supervisor of each work area.  The following guidelines should be followed:

Shirts – Acceptable shirts will include: J & E T-Shirts, solid color T-Shirts (with no advertising), or casual dress shirts (i.e., Polo style or button-down shirts).  If shirts have tails or are exceptionally long (to the thigh), they are to be tucked into your pants.  Over-shirts (i.e., flannel shirts) are also to be buttoned and tucked into your pants.  Sleeveless or Tank-top style shirts will not be acceptable.

Pants – Solid Colors Only!!  Sweat pants, wind pants and camouflage pants are unacceptable.  Holes in pants above the thigh and any holes larger than a nickel below the thigh are not allowed.  Coveralls and bib overalls are acceptable but must be fastened when worn.

Shorts – Solid Colors Only!!  Shorts must be thigh length (arms or longer).  Cut-offs, bike shorts, and stretch shorts are not acceptable.

Shoes – Sandals, open-toed or soft, moccasin-type shoes are not acceptable.  All shoes must have a hard or rubber sole with covered and enclosed toes.  Employee’s working in the Shop, on a full time basis, are required to wear steel toed boots.  J & E offers boot purchase assistance.  Contact your supervisor for this information.

Hats – J & E Supply will purchase and distribute hats to those who will wear hats.  Vendor hats will also be acceptable.

Appropriate Grooming – Beards and mustaches will be neatly trimmed.  If you wear your hair longer than collar length, it must be pulled back into a pony tail.

Derogatory Remarks & Sexual Harassment:  J & E Supply & Fastener Co. is an Equal Opportunity Employer that does not and will not discriminate towards age, race, color, sexual preference, religion, gender etc.  Any derogatory or discriminatory remark will not be tolerated and will be dealt with harshly and severely.  Management does not, nor will it, overlook or permit racial discrimination, derogatory behaviors, or sexual harassment.  The work environment is not a place for these behaviors.   If remarks, jokes or slurs of this nature are heard, bring it to managements attention immediately and corrective actions will be taken.

Prohibited Conduct: Violation of any of these policies constitutes grounds for verbal or written warning, suspension or immediate termination, depending on the severity of the violation.

·         Repeated absence or tardiness from work.

·         Horseplay in general.

·         Horseplay which results in an injury to an employee or damage to company property.

·         Leaving the premises of J & E during working hours without permission or knowledge of your immediate supervisor, except for official company business.

·         Failure to immediately report any accident or injury to your supervisor or manager.

·         Theft of company property or the property of another employee.

·         Knowingly punching another employee’s time card or allowing someone else to punch your time card.

·         Abuse, misuse, or deliberate destruction of company property.

·         Falsifying or altering any reports or records.

·         Physical violence or fighting on the premises.

·         Insubordination, refusal, or failure to do a job assignment and/or follow instructions.

·         Dishonesty, deception or fraud.

·         Excessive use of the company telephone for personal business.

·         Loafing on the job or interfering with the work of other employees.

·         Knowingly leaving or putting inventory in locations other than its designated location.

·         Disrespect to customers or other employees.

·         Violation of any written policy or procedure.

 Guns and Weapons: Guns and Weapons of any type are strictly prohibited from the premises of J & E Supply & Fastener.  This also applies to those employee’s that posses a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

 Controlled Substances (Drugs):  Possession and/or use of any Controlled Substance is prohibited on the premises of  J & E Supply & Fastener unless they have been prescribed to you by your doctor.  Only then if you are able to perform you duties without hindrance.  You must inform your supervisor that you are taking this medication.  Violation of this policy can result in suspension and possibly immediate termination.

Alcohol: Alcohol is not permitted on the premises of J & E Supply & Fastener Inc.. Violation of this policy can result in suspension and possibly immediate termination.

Entering and Exiting the Building: This should be done through either the Inside Sales/Pick-up Entrance or the Showroom.  If these doors are locked, the doors on either side of the large overhead door will be open for you to enter.
