Filling a Back Order

A back order is an order that did not have all of the items completed. There are several reasons why an order was not completed such as we simply did not have the inventory, or we did not find all of our available inventory. There are way to many potential reasons to list within this tutorial.

By this point you should have a clear understanding of the anatomy of a ticket. So, you should have a clear understanding of the language used in this tutorial. If not click here to review.

Back orders are taken to the receiving department each day after the receiving has been received in the computer system. Usually this means later in the evening. The orders will always be placed in the back order tray. The location of the tray could move so it will be important for you to speak with your direct supervisor about the location of the tray.

Once the orders have been brought to the receiving department they should be evaluated at that time to see if any order can be completed right away. Orders such as UPS or Beaver orders are perfect examples of this type of an order. Anytime we can get an order out for delivery the same day is a good thing.

Ideally all of the product you should need to fill your order should still be in the receiving area. This may not always be the case and you will need to fill the order much like a normal order filler would do.

Normally, if there are several items left to be filled on the order the ones that are needing to be addressed will be highlighted. This is not always the case. For example, maybe the previous person filling the ticket simply could not find an item on the ticket so they back ordered it. You should always review the ticket to ensure there is not an item you could fill whether it is highlighted or not. Taking that extra personal step will save time and money and your customer will appreciate the effort also.
